Incheon International Airport is located 60km west of central Seoul. There are four ways to reach the city — each with different trade-offs on cost, speed, and convenience.
| Option | Journey time | Cost (approx.) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AREX Express Train | 43 min | KRW 11,000 (~USD 8) | Speed & reliability |
| Limousine Bus | 60–100 min | KRW 17,000–20,000 (~USD 13–15) | Hotel districts (Gangnam, Myeongdong) |
| Taxi / Kakao Taxi | 60–90 min | KRW 65,000–80,000 (~USD 48–60) | Door-to-door convenience |
| Seoul Metro | 90–120 min | KRW 4,750 (~USD 3.50) | Budget travelers, light luggage |
The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) runs a direct express service from Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Seoul Station in 43 minutes. Runs every 30 minutes, costs KRW 11,000 one way. No stops, reserved seating, baggage storage available onboard. From Seoul Station you can transfer to Metro Lines 1 and 4, reaching most central areas within 10–20 minutes.
The AREX also operates a slower All-Stop service (~66 min) calling at Hongik University (Hongdae) and Gongdeok — useful if your destination is in western Seoul.
Direct routes to Gangnam, Myeongdong, Hongdae, Jongno, and other major districts. Journey times 60–100 minutes depending on traffic. Fares KRW 17,000–20,000. Routes and schedules at limousinebus.co.kr. Particularly recommended for travelers staying in Gangnam or southern Seoul, where the AREX requires additional transfers.
Standard metered taxis are available at the taxi rank outside arrivals. Journey to central Seoul (Myeongdong or Jongno) typically costs KRW 65,000–80,000 and takes 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Kakao Taxi (Korea's dominant ride-hailing app) offers the same service with advance booking and card payment. Having your destination written in Korean is helpful for communication.
The AREX All-Stop service connects to the Seoul Metro network, making it possible to reach almost anywhere in Seoul via transfer. Total journey time 90–120 minutes including transfer, but total cost is very low (KRW 4,750 from Terminal 1 to central Seoul). Suits budget travelers with light luggage and destinations near a metro station.
Terminal 2 serves Korean Air, Delta, Air France, KLM, and Garuda Indonesia. All other airlines use Terminal 1. Both terminals are connected to the AREX and have bus services. A shuttle bus runs between the two terminals (approximately 15–18 minutes). Check your terminal when booking your outbound transport.
